One last night in Rome

Day 19, August 21: I can't believe we go home tomorrow. We had breakfast then headed to the water taxi. We had a little confusion before we managed to get on the right boat. We didn't realize they have a floating holding area to wait in until the boat arrives. Of course, I was wondering before the taxi arrived why everyone was faced toward the one doorway. Duh.

It was a warm 40 minute boat ride to the station and not a bad way to end our time here in Venice. We were VERY glad however to be aboard an A/C equipped train rather than the humid outdoors. Once we arrived we went back to the Hotel Piemonte in a different room. Bigger overall but the A/C didn't work well. We turned the dial down to 10 degrees C which should have been freezing and it hardly did a thing.

Our last night in Europe, we headed out to find Jason a shirt somewhere on Via Del Corso. However, hardly anyone carried his size. All the men in Italy are tiny. Jason's massive shoulders prevented him from even wearing an XL. We walked into one store and this little gay guy, almost smaller than me, looked at Jason and said, "Hello, small guy". It was hilarious.

It was still fun to go into the shops and walk through Piazza S. Polo. Then we went in search of food, managing to wander all the way to the Pantheon then through Piazza Navola. We started nowhere near those locations. We were aiming for a place called Da Francesco which was closed, possibly for good. Instead we ate at Zio Ciro. Turned out to be very good!

Jason had an outstanding caprese and their bruschetta was one of the best. My penne with crawfish and shrimp was the best, even if I had to shell four of them myself. After our leisurely dinner we got gelato of course. It's our last night here. Gelato is a must. We found a random place between two restaurants near Piazza Navola and then sat by the fountain to enjoy it. I had an amazing peach gelato that tasted like fresh peaches. We attempted a few self portraits with the camera and they didn't come out very well. Then we walked for what seemed like forever to get back to Barberini station. Now we have to go to bed. Bags are packed and we leave for home tomorrow!
